   Cool!  The platform the metronomes are on is basically performing an averaging of all of the metronome phases, and by moving the platform imparts part of that average back on all of the metronome phases (we called that the Kammen Comparator Model for phase locking).  I used to do the same thing, but with analog neuron-like oscillators on a CMOS chip: http://citeseerx.ist.psu.edu/viewdoc/summary?doi=10.1.1.40.9419
